“The need to be right all the time is the biggest bar there is to new ideas. It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong than to always be right by having no ideas at all.”

I have posted a new gallery of student work. These are photographs from students in my Photography 101, Discovering Your Creative Vision and Creative Sparks creativity workshops in Vero Beach, Florida. It’s amazing to watch as these students discover their creative vision through photography.
Check out the new photography gallery!
A special thank you to my students!

A Visual Inventory is a collection of 272 snapshots from architect John Pawson’s photography collection. Finding inspiration in the ordinary Pawson showcases a different way of looking at the everyday.
A Visual Inventory presents some of the images from Pawson’s personal collection of over 230,000 digital snapshots. Hand-picked and arranged in pairs, photographs of buildings, objects, landscapes and surfaces are accompanied by captions written by Pawson that explain why he was compelled to capture the image. It’s the selection, arrangement and captioning of the photographs that make this book unique, valuable and attractive to any architect, designer, artist or student who wants to see the world around them with a stronger eye.
The AE Backus gallery announces their 2012 photography competition. I’m looking forward to judging the show.

I’ve been reading Rollo May’s classic book on creativity The Courage To Create and have found it fascinating and inspiring. I’ve read many books on the creative process and Dr. May really gets it. This is one of the best books on creativity, ever! His thoughts on the role of the unconscious, the encounter and limits on creativity are insightful. Reading and understanding this book could make you a better artist and a better person! I’m going to read it again!
I’ve been inpsired by the tropical colors and quality of light living in Florida and have been trying to express the essence of this feeling. I thinBastia abstract color photograph comes close.
I recently redesigned and relaunched my bookstore featuring books on photography, art & creativity. Reading is one of my passions and many of these books have informed me as an artist, an instructor and as a person. I’m sure you’ll find some inspiration here!
Purchasing books through this store helps offset the cost of maintaining this website and I greatly appreciate your support.
