Photography Classes & Creativity Workshops

I am an artist, photographer and instructor based in Vero Beach, Florida. I am fascinated by photography, art and creativity. I have a Masters in Fine Art (MFA) in Photography and extensive experience as a commercial photographer shooting architecture, food & products. In addition to my commercial photography work I teach photography classes at the Vero Beach Museum of Art mentor numerous private students in Vero Beach and Miami, Florida. My fine art photography has been exhibited around the world. I was recently featured on the Miami episode of Ovation TV’s art + travel show American Canvas.

Photography 101 – Discovering Nature
Learn how to get the most out of your camera in this interactive class while exploring the natural beauty of Indian River. Drawing inspiration from the Fall 2022 exhibition, Changing Nature: A New Vision, Photographs by James Balog we’ll explore the concept of nature photography at several habitats protected by the Indian River Land Trust while you gain hands-on experience with f/stops, shutter speeds and ISO. We’ll also discuss composition, color, perspective and imaginative approaches to photography to help spark your creativity!

Photoshop CC for Photographers
Take your photography to the next level using Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Bridge. This interactive photography class is designed to teach you digital workflow from camera to computer to printer. Learn how to get the most out of your photographs using the editing capabilities of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge. We will also cover filters and special effects during this 10-week photography class. You must have a portable personal laptop computer with your personal version of Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Bridge.

Discover Your World With Fresh Eyes!
This course is designed to help you discover your creativity and personal vision through photography. We will explore the creative process through presentations, slides and videos. Each week you will be given a creative challenge to help you discover new ways of seeing. Technical skills will be introduced along the way to support creative ideas. I will also present a variety of strategies for staying engaged in creativity even after the course.

No previous camera experience is necessary. All levels of cameras are welcome, from iPhones to state-of-the-art dSLRs and beyond.

Photography, What’s the Big Idea?
This course will address the question of “how do we look at photography as art?” We’ll travel through the history of photography with a curious eye looking at the evolution of the photographic processes, techniques, and, most importantly, the ideas that shaped the art form in an attempt to understand the medium better.

Discover Miami’s vibrant street art and your creativity in this creative photography class held in the infamous Wynwood Art District.

We will start the photo excursion immersed in the Wynwood Walls street art project and continue to visit some of the district’s most interesting and vibrant street art. You will receive technical support and creative ideas as we explore the area with our cameras.

This creative photography class will begin at 1:00PM at the Wynwood Kitchen & Bar surrounded by some fantastic murals by Kenny Scharf, Shepard Fairey, Futura and many others. From there we will explore the street art and gallery culture Wynwood is known for.
